Proud and amazed!

The resilience and strength of my children never ceases to amaze me. My kids are definitely active and generally fit but certainly not super athletes or crazy about sports like some of their friends. Yet every year we come to Rocky Mountain National Park and do lots of hiking and every year they go a little further, a little higher. Conner hiked almost 8 miles and Maggie so far has done a 4.6 mile hike. Not bad for 9 and 6. Brad and I have been in better shape than past years but we are getting out there, too. Here's a picture of the kids on the way up to Fern Falls, one of our favorite walks in the park. I am so proud of their willingness to try and their own pride in reaching the final destination.

Don't be afraid to push your kids. It's so important for them to try new things and test their limits. I had to learn that lesson too and am grateful to my husband for pushing me to go longer and higher. We have done some amazing hikes over the years.

I have been coming to Estes Park at least once a year for the past 30 years. It is near and dear to my heart and I am glad my children are learning to love it here too. They get to see all kinds of things they would never see in Dallas like elk in the backyard of Grandma's house, marmots, chipmunks and red-naped sapsuckers. These kind of memories are so precious and the time we spend together all too rare.
